Welcome to Medietas! Do you have an interest in joining the game? Is there an old muse that you want to dust off? Or, perhaps you're looking for a place to voice test a brand new character and would like to do so in our little island setting among friends? Well, whatever the reason, this is where you can do that!

You all know what to do! If you don’t, just follow the instructions and HAVE FUN!

How To Play:

→ Comment with the character you’d like to test drive. Don’t forget to add their name and canon in the subject line.
→ Choose a scenario, or start your own!
→ Tag around!

Possible Scenarios:

1. Getting Settled: So, now that you've arrived and wandered around the starter home you've been given, it's time to check out the rest of the islands. There's a market on Aerilon that is full of treasures. Or, you can check out Chapter Six bookstore. Perhaps you wander over to the Mean Princess facility on Mulciber. There is so much to see and do!

2. Islands: There is definitely some weirdness going on around the islands from the sidewalks that glow to the mysterious energy that doesn't seem to have any direct source. There are statues that hum softly and seem to grow every so often. And what is with these bridges? Go forth and investigate! Puzzles are FUN!

3. PARTY: Every month or so there's always a celebration somewhere, be it on Mulciber, Imber, Mundus, Eurus, and now Nidus! Eat, drink, dance, talk among the other islanders. It's about making new friends and enjoying yourself, right? Even if you have been stolen away from your home world to a bunch of floating islands.

4. Trouble!: All is quiet and calm when suddenly the warning signals across each of the islands sound. Not long after, or, at least only long enough to get prepared, a large hydra creature crawling out of the lake on Imber. Do what you can to help remove this threat before it gets to any of the other islands!

5. Wild Card: Got something else in mind and want to create your own scenario? Go for it!

In Lestat's case, human was the entire menu. It was best that way. Of course from time to time there'd been the odd vampire, but that blood came with consequences. Or gifts, if you'd rather. Lestat mostly preferred to see it that way at this moment anyway. It was subject to change -- as were most of his whims and feelings, just waiting for the next direction that the wind happened to blow.

Lestat could smell the faint scent of smoke, feel the weight of a gaze (metaphoric though that weight may be) on him. One eye cracked open, blinded a moment to adjust to the sunlight, which he wondered if he would ever be used to. He was already looking in his direction when the words were spoken. His lips curved up into a smile at the question. "Yes, fresh off the boat as they say. And you would remember me. Most tend to."

It was vanity, yes, but also true. Lestat was far from subtle more often than not. He made an impression, usually by design. Occasionally unintentionally. Either way, he was not easily forgotten.

It was definitely safe to say Lestat reminded him of someone--and that was not a compliment. Or maybe it was? The type of person who seems to rule his life by his emotions, what moves him from one minute to the next. The type who alternated between those two extremes of extreme aggression and loving passion. Was the vague sense of deja vu just the hair and the eyes or was there something deeper in there? Seel couldn't help but scowl for a brief minute, this was not Calanthe. But it didn't help Lestat's case that he reminded him of him, perhaps on a merely superficial level. And damn was he still attracted to him.

Seel inhaled, wondering why he'd ever given this up in the first place--it wasn't like it was going to kill him--and set his glass down.

"Yes, I think I would remember you. You're not easily forgotten." The vanity worked in your favor, Lestat. Seel liked it, it was very Wraeththu. It was not vanity to acknowledge your beauty, or beauty in others. It was more selfish to deny it.

"Care for a drink?" He gestured to his glass. "It's not great."

"How accommodating. But it's not an imposition. I was enjoying the sun, and I can continue to do that even now. Now I just have conversation and company. I like both quite a bit."

If they were good, or if not good, interesting. So far this woman was holding his attention, the fact that his ego had been engaged by the request certainly didn't hurt the cause. And he was interested, unable to see what her pencil did on the paper, but watching for the movements he could catch. "Well, then I'm flattered," he conceded with a laugh, hand braced to the sand behind him.

"You don't quite remind me of anyone I know, but that's more interesting for me. New people and things feel like rare occurrences sometimes." Not that he was in danger of disappearing into ennui at the moment -- though it had happened in the past woudl happen again. Or some other flavor of existential crisis.

Immortality was exhausting.

"Impossible to say yet. I'd like to think good. I always would like to think good. And yet, so often, I've guessed wrong." Story of Lestat's life. Aim for good, generally mostly, but too easily thrown off course by flight or fancy or pettiness. So many possible diversions on the way to good. And maybe this place and its kinder sun were the same. For the moment it felt bright and good, but first impressions were tricky that way.

He spared another laugh and a shake of his head. "I've done a fair bit of listening in my times. I've heard music that woke me back up into life itself, but never the trees. How interesting that they sing for you. They must be fond of you."

Or perhaps this pretty man was something other than human, or at least than the sort of human that Lestat was familiar with.

Oh brave new world that has such people in it. He chuckled quietly at his own train of thought. "What's your name?"

The scowl was far more interesting than it ought to be. Lestat was used to vexing people, though usually he needed more than half a dozen words and a moment to accomplish that. So this would be a new record, of sorts. One that he would be oddly proud of, but certainly wasn't aiming for.

But the blond didn't seem all that worried by the expression anyway, and simply nodded at the observation. "More than a few have wished otherwise."

At least he had enough self-awareness to realize his flaws, though not nearly enough self-awareness not to revel in them all the same -- when he wasn't taking in a fit of self-loathing. Those were exhausting, to him and everyone unfortunate enough to be around him.

A shake of his head at the offer. "Thanks, but I'm afraid I can't. Special diet."

"Perhaps you should learn to be better at guessing." Or listening. Either way. blind optimism could be a fault as much as a strength. Not many hara had much of it left. At least not the ones he knew. Maybe there were a few Gelaming left who did, but certainly not any of the ones in charge.

He shrugged, though. Everyone thought they listened. Maybe some of them even did. "They're fond of who listens. Or maybe they're just fond. They're always singing something." People just had to listen for it, but the sounds of reality drowned out the song. It was easy to get caught in.

"Cobweb." He didn't give his whole name. Names were powerful. "My name is Cobweb. Do I get yours in return?"
fier: (oh how it's been so long)

[personal profile] fier 2017-05-13 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
"Probably, but I don't mind holding out hope. Whatever comes or doesn't, I'll work it out."

He'd survive it anyway. Vampires were resilient, Lestat even more than most. It got him in trouble. Well, it was one of the things that got him in trouble. There were many, the list ever-growing as the years ticked on. "It sounds lovely. I wonder if my mother hears them. She's always been drawn to the wilder parts of the world."

At least, once she was able to roam.

Cobweb is not a name that he had heard before, but it was rather fascinating, such a dusty name for such a beauty. But Lestat found he rather liked it. "Of course. It's only fair, right? Lestat de Lioncourt." Lestat had leas concern over the power of names, and gave his quite proudly, his tongue wrapping around the syllables, a stronger presence of his mother tongue than the faint French accent that still tinted his words in general.

"Lestat." Interesting. It almost sounded like a harish name, but...older. From before the world ended, maybe? He couldn't really say. So much had been lost and there were a very few who remembered any of it. Most held bits and pieces, but never a whole story. The Wraeththu were new and their history was only beginning.

"She sounds like an impressive woman. I wasn't aware that many possessed such a gift." By that he meant that he only knew that he did. Granted, he didn't know every har in the world, but there was a reason they came to him, a reason he was famous for it. The Tigron sought him out for his wisdom, and it wasn't because his gifts were common.

"You sound like an optimist. How have you managed that?"
fier: (and now that we're done)

[personal profile] fier 2017-05-13 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
"She is impressive, my Gabrielle. But her gift may be different than yours. In fact it likely is." No, Cobweb was not a vampire. Quite different, but certainly a different flavor than the humans Lestat knew too. Further and further fascinating, though catching Lestat's attention was a dubious honor at best.

That assessment would earn a laugh though, one that drew Lestat's mouth into a wide grin, wide enough that the sharp points of fangs are visible momentarily.

"Maybe it's because the sun is out. But maybe you're right. I'm an optimist enough to have made it this far." Of course he had moments where he was entirely the opposite, moments that lasted decades, but everything was relative.

"I don't doubt that it is. No one and nohar is truly like me." Many could say that, perhaps, but Cobweb at least had the power to back it up. He smiled, an easy, charming grin with as much sly coyness as he could muster, green eyes warming a little with it.

"Is the sun all it takes? You must be quite ridiculous half the time, then." His tone was more friendly than mocking, though. "Perhaps my optimism died a long time ago, then. Yours seems to be holding up rather well. I was only curious for your secrets."
fier: (i'm still)

"You say that like the sun is nothing. But this is the first time I've felt the sun like this since I was... a much younger man." So much younger. Lifetimes and lifetimes ago. And these days it felt even longer ago, after the more recent reminder of mortality he'd had in a borrowed body. But this was his own body, Lestat as Lestat, in the sun.

That grin brought an answering smile over his own features in reflex, as though he could hardly have stopped the expression if he wanted to.

"You are so young to say something like that. But I suppose there have been times when I've lost any shred of optimism to cynicism..." Growing up in that house, with his father and his brothers who had never understood him, could never understand him. It was hard to have much hope then. "The only secret I can offer is to chase what makes you happy. No matter who it may upset." Be the rockstar even if it will make literally every other one of your kind furious or exasperated or worried for your life or your sanity! Perhaps he ought to recommend his autobiography.

"Young? And how might you know how old I am?" He was, though, in the scheme of things, and he knew it It didn't negate his power or his ability, but he wasn't at the beginning of things. That this one would call him young, well. That said all sorts of interesting things about him too. And he wasn't even being careful about it.

"I suppose the sun must have missed you, then, to make you so happy. I suppose I've grown accustomed to seeing it." Too comfortable with its presence, a thing he took for granted. He should have learned his lesson by now. Maybe one day, eventually, he would.

His smile faltered, though, slightly, at the advice, and he hesitated for half a breath, trying to determine how much to tell a stranger. How many secrets did he have, though, really? Everyhar knew the story. Here it might have been different, but he wasn't ashamed so much as cautious. He'd been victimized. There was a difference.

"Ah, but I have tried that already, and found only pain at the end of it." Not only pain, but more than enough for a lifetime. "Maybe you'll have better luck than I did."

"Call it a hunch, if you like. But you are." To Lestat at least. He'd learned by now to recongize others like himself, even when they weren't vampires, per se.

Though this one, young as he may be, had clearly suffered. "Nothing without risk, that is true. Sometimes you fly, sometimes your wings burn and throw you from the sky." That was more or less how that story went, wasn't it? Lestat shrugged a shoulder. "If you're fortunate you have the chance to scrape yourself off the ground and try again."

And in a fit of something damned near compassion (Lestat so often meant well, after all, it just got twisted up) he added. "I'm sorry, that what you found was pain."

[personal profile] supharstitious 2017-05-13 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
"A hunch." That was enough to explain it, really. He put a great amount of stock in hunches and feelings. They were usually the most immediate and accurate reactions, he'd found. Never mind how the Gelaming felt about it. Feeling could be power as much as the cold logic they tried to cling to.

"I suppose you're right. Most of us are. Is that a problem?" He couldn't see how, but well. People would find anything to be upset about.

He sighed, though, at old and painful memories. Terzian, Forever, hearing words that he'd always known in his heart but had hoped beyond hope weren't true regardless.

"Pain is part of living. I may have had more than I'd wished for, but without it how am I to know I'm still alive?"
fier: (we're so sorry)

[personal profile] fier 2017-05-13 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Of course not. I can't imagine being bothered by it."

Youth wasn't a poor quality. Everyone who lived had been young once, even the eldest of his kind had lived and walked as children and youths once, however long ago it had been. Lestat lifted his chin as he consdered those words.

The expression that found his face next was a great deal less mirthful, though it was still a smile, simply a shade of what it had been. "How indeed? Though pain doesn't always end with life. What follows life can have its share of pain as well."

Well, he wasn't being terribly discreet about the fact that he was not entirely normal, but when had he ever been? There were bookshelves in his world that attested to his lack of secrecy.

That was good, at least. He wouldn't have to deal with proving himself, anyway. At least not so far as age was concerned.

He raised an eyebrow, though. The things he was learning in this conversation. Apparently he'd have to venture outside a little more often if it ended in this sort of thing. He doubted he'd be so lucky every time, but at least once it had been a good thing. Or a better thing than he'd thought it would be.

"I wouldn't know about that. I've never had the opportunity to see it. Dare I ask how you would know? Or is that a secret?" Either way, he could understand. Or try to. Secrets were safer, but he'd never find out if he didn't at least try to ask the questions. Maybe that was why he heard more singing than others--because he bothered to put in the effort of finding.

Lestat wasn't the only one of his blood who haunted the islands. The strange little city's streets had become familiar in Louis' weeks there and he'd fallen into his old habit of meandering in busy areas after sunset, wandering into the quiet streets as the night stretched on. It was fitting then that he became aware of Lestat early in the evening.

Later he would not be able to explain how he knew before he saw Lestat, beyond catching a hint of his voice or scent from afar. That night the realization began with a feeling that he was missing something obvious, that there was something nearby he should have been aware of. It nagged at him as he strolled through the passing citizens under lit and dimmed shop signs and the open doors of restaurants, growing increasingly difficult to ignore and only identifiable when he gazed on a familiar sight.

Tall and bold, ever at ease even and effortlessly drawing stares; he couldn't have ignored this figure. He knew that pale handsome face with the sensual lips, the blue eyes drinking in the sight of mortals. This could only Lestat, and Louis was struck with surprise enough to speak. "Of course; you came."

It was an odd trick of fate but they rarely seemed far outside each other's reach, one always following the other whether they knew or not. Even in this strange land outside the Savage Garden, where the vampire was nothing more than another race among dozens. Yet here they were again, Lestat beautiful and commanding, Louis withdrawn and quiet (and dressed in drab clothes that were sure to be criticized). The more things changed.

Despite the silence that existed between their minds, their souls, the silence that he had put there the night that he ended Louis' human life and brought him to this new one, there was an instant, even before Louis spoke, that Lestat recognized his presence.

Perhaps it was the sense of another vampire nearby, one whose thoughts were locked away from him. That certainly could have explained it. But Lestat, in his romantic's heart, liked to think that it was Louis presence in particular that caught his attention.

Then that voice, unmistakable, carved into his memory so deep that he was certain it would never fade. He turned to face the other vampire without hesitation, a smile already stretching its way over his features. "I couldn't possibly turn down the invitation."

Though he meant that literally. He had not intended to end up in this strange land, but seeing Louis -- beautiful as ever, delicate and lovely in a way that always made Lestat's undead heart pang. The other vampire was a heartbreak in slow motion, bittersweet and compelling. ...though dressed horribly. Always, his Louis. Clearly he needed Lestat's influence. "If I'd known you were here, I would've come sooner."

The rest of everything may as well have disappeared around them at the moment, the sparse crowd barely an afterthought, forgotten already as the blond made his way towards Louis, closer. Too much distance still, and he would fix that if he could.

"It is a secret. And it's not. Humans are strange. You can drop the truth right in their lap, packaged neatly -- with beautiful cover art -- and they'll take it for fiction and lies."

The secret best kept by keeping it not a secret at all. That said, this strange place where he found himself, he wondered if it would be different. If he ought to be more careful, more circumspect. For a moment, that was what Lestat intended to do, to dismiss the question with a laugh and let the subject change. For one, brief moment he considered it.

But where was the fun in that? "I know because I have died. And then, I continued one." He held out a hand if Cobweb felt inclined to touch, the cold skin, nearly dead pulse.

"Yes. You can. They'll merrily destroy themselves for their own blindness." They had done it, even. They'd ruined the world and ended themselves in the process. It was sad, really, or would have been if Cobweb had thought that they didn't deserve it. They'd had their chance and now it was over.

He did feel inclined to touch, though not for much longer than it took to recognize how cold he was. That was when he realized why the man felt so very familiar, and his eyes widened for a moment.

"I see. How many of you are there? It seems I may have already met one."

Perhaps Louis was too romantic for his own good, but he would have believed that explanation. He had sensed Lestat's presence, hadn't he?

Their eyes met and Louis smiled before glancing down at the ground and stepping forward to meet Lestat, his hands buried in his pockets (one modern habit he had adopted; be proud of that much). He caught Lestat's meaning, inviting his touch and looking up to him with one of his rare smiles. He did love Lestat, had always loved him and always will, even if Louis knew his presence would lead to chaos.

"I know you would have." That was precisely why he hadn't attempted to send out any messages. Louis liked the peace and comfort this place provided. It was a place where he could survive comfortably without murdering mortals and without astonishing anyone. Lestat would find a way to turn that all on its side, yet in these first moments he couldn't resist him.

How was he supposed to answer that question?

"Ho-how am I supposed to answer that?!" Flustered again, hint of red around his nose and cheeks. Clearly not used to being teased, given his reactions. "Look, let's just figure out if these things are a threat or not, okay?" A hint of exasperation, although he resisted the urge to roll his eyes.

"Ready?"
