Alric raised his eyebrows at that answer; perhaps the fellow was just feeling cantankerous, or enjoyed the chance to put someone off a bit? Still, he took it otherwise in stride, and nodded his acknowledgement.

After all, he knew practically nothing about the man, save that he had to say the least a peculiar sense of humor. He waved a hand lightly at the offer, however, evidently not intending on drinking, himself.
"But, perhaps, your thoughts on the decorations? I must admit they're somewhat... extravagant, by my homeland's standards."
He could well have said "gaudy" or "tawdry," but instead avoided making any such value judgment--at least, out loud. Likewise, he didn't specifically focus on the golden hand, leaving the option to discuss something else, although it was a rather obvious centerpiece. Even so, a more explicit out might be appreciated.
