Test Drive

Welcome to Medietas! Are you interested in joining the game? Do you have an old muse you want to dust off? Are you looking for a place to voice test a brand new character and would like to do so in our little island setting? Well, you've come to the right place!

You all know what to do but if you don’t, just follow the instructions and HAVE FUN!

How To Play:

→ Comment with the character you’d like to test drive. Don’t forget to add their name and canon in the subject line.
→ Choose a scenario, or start your own!
→ Tag around!

Possible Scenarios:

1. New Arrival: You have just arrived on the island of Medietas, in the city of Aerilon via a floating boat with people you may or may not know. Of course, you can't help wondering what the heck is going on here, or how you even got on the boat in the first place. But as soon as the vessel docks you are greeted by some lovely locals who offer you a map and a communications device before leaving you to your own. You probably have questions and there seems to be a number of people there already who may or may not have those answers. Talk to them! Or, get on the network and introduce yourself!

2. Getting Settled: So, you've arrived, but now there's five islands you should get yourself acquainted with. Meet your starter home neighbors! Start your new job! Check out the market on Aerilon. Or, attend one of the many block parties!

3. Lost!: Somehow you got yourself turned around and confused and getting back to where you want to be is looking impossible.

4. Wild Card: Got something else in mind and want to create your own scenario? Go for it!

"It has been many years since I undertook any formal schooling," Cullen said, turning to look at the boy who had spoken to him. His education had only really begun once he'd been accepted as a Templar acolyte, and with his aptitude, he'd been encouraged to enrol in various courses that would further his education and set him up for the higher echelons of the Templar ranks. That was a long time ago, a lifetime if he were being honest.

He glanced down at the device in his hand. Useful, perhaps, though he couldn't figure out for the life of him how it worked. Cal then reminded him that he was there too with a low wuff. "He's a mabari," Cullen said proudly. He was a dog lord, after all. "Called Calenhad. He won't hurt you." Not unless Cullen ordered it - which he wouldn't.

"I'm not exactly looking forward to it either. It seems....different than the school I went to before. This seems more like classes rather than training."

He kind of felt bad for the teachers who were stuck trying to teach a demigod math and science, while his battlefield instincts, which mortals tended to view as ADHD, was telling him to climb the walls.

"The last school I went to that had classes like this didn't end well." Well, schools. It never ended well for any demigod. And until they got to Camp Half Blood most of them tended to think it was their fault.

Solace saw the man looking at the device. " I threw mine in the trash can." Reaching out with a hand, he let the dog sniff him. "May I?"

"What kind of training did you do?" Spoken like a true general. Classes would get you so far, but there was nothing quite like the feel of actually getting out there and doing whatever it was you were doing.

He frowned slightly. "Perhaps this school is different. Or you can find an outlet outside of school." After all, you most likely weren't there all the time, unless it were like Templar training. Even then, they still had some free time.

He glanced at the device, and shoved it into his belt before smiling indulgently at Cal. "He'll enjoy the attention."

Finally, someone who might understand. He tried to argue with the headmistress. Will thought his arguments were sound. She didn't agree. Whoever this man was, he knew combat. He almost gave off the same feelings that Chiron did. Or would, if he wasn't half horse.

"Depends on what your talents are. There's swordfighting, archery, javelins and such, but there's also music and forge time for some of us. And of course there's the climbing wall--it has lava and boulders that come down if you don't climb to the top fast enough. There was a three legged death race just before I arrived here. Don't worry, no one died. One boy did get his leg sawed off though. I think he actually improved since last year--he lost both his arms last time. He'll be fine." Will said, hoping Paolo would be fine. He hadn't had enough time to fully re-attach the leg before waking up here.

He reached out to the Mabari and gave him a pat. "It looks like I'm going to have to train after classes, here."

Cullen raised an eyebrow at the description of the lava wall - it seemed a little excessive - especially the death race as well. "Most people don't casually talk about losing limbs." It was a little bit of a sore subject, given his wife had just lost an arm recently.

He shook his head a little, focusing back on the boy. "Though if I am here for any length of time, I'd be happy to help you train. I am Commander of a large army, and use to training soldiers."

"He's a son of Hebe, he'll heal well, assuming someone else finishes attaching his leg. I got taken before I could finish the surgery." Will shrugged, but it wasn't a non-nonchalant attitude, more an acceptance. Training was necessary. Or else they'd all die. And they didn't believe in training with wooden child weapons.

"But he probably should work on his dodging." Honestly, how did Chiron not assign him classes to help with that? Maybe since no one could understand a word he said, with him always talking in Portuguese. "I'd love the help. My skills are more toward healing, but I'd love to get better with weaponry." It was hard always having to rely more on others to defend you. But, no one was good at everything. He understood that.

"What kind of soldiers do you train? What kind of weapons?"

Cullen just shook his head, taking in the attitude. It was normal to them. And here he was, struggling to know how best to help Nadia adjust to having only one arm.

"I command the Inquisition's army, currently the largest army in Thedas. We deal with fighting physical and magical enemy, plus a few demons and the like thrown into the mix. Weaponry is mostly swords, or daggers for the rogues. I know a little archery as well, but I mostly use a sword and shield." And he had a few other tricks to stop magic, but he tried not to use them unless he absolutely had to.

They didn't have anything like that at Camp Half-Blood. The Greeks just didn't have an army. They did however have Clarisse, daughter of Ares. That was kind of the same thing. The Roman camp, Camp Jupiter, definitely did. He knew about it first hand. They had almost gone to war. Again. But, after thousands of years of hatred, the two Camps had finally declared peace, and resolved their differences. Will almost couldn't believe it was a lot thanks to Hera. Juno. Whatever.

Will gave Cullen a smile, trying to explain. "We take training very seriously. Camp Half Blood is one of the only safe places for my kind. Outside of it, most don't reach their teens. Even with the Camp it's rare for a half-blood to make it to 20. We step out of it, and we're in danger of being hunted and killed by monsters while we're in school or getting groceries. The Camp is protected, so we train. The 3 legged death race where Paolo got a leg cut off? A little extreme. It was built by an 8 year old. And no one wanted to disappoint him, he'd just lost a brother."

And he took in Cullen's explanations about how they fought physical and magical enemies, and that was where he got confused. He knew they were from different worlds and all that, that much was obvious. They just didn't have anything like that where was from. So, he asked, "What's the difference? Also, I'd love to get better with a sword. As a son of Apollo it doesn't really come naturally." But he also knows there's a possibility a time will come when he cant rely on his lacking bow skills or Nico or his other campers. He needed to be ready when he finally...if he finally left Camp. That was where you found out if you were any good or not. In the regular world. As monster bait.

'My kind'. It was the phrase that made Cullen's blood run cold. For too long Thedas had been struggling with the concept that everyone was equal, with all the races they had there, and how downtrodden some of them had become because of people's prejudices. But at the Inquisition, elf worked alongside Qunari, a Tevinter Mage was one of the best friends of it's leader, and mages were treated with respect - at least in his presence. He wasn't blind to how all his troops thought, but as long as they behaved with respect in his presence, eventually it would seep through, he hoped. One thing they had done, even if they had to disband was to change the face of Thedas. Maybe that was what was needed to bring it forward in it's attitudes.

But he focused back on the boy. His world sounded horrific, if he were being honest, with monsters chasing people down in cold blood. So he made it his pledge to answer questions honestly. "Most people in my world...," - and how odd was that to say? - "...have no access to magic. The way we fight is purely physical, hitting each other in an attempt to wound and kill them. Then we have mages, who have access to a lot of spells. Those have to be treated in a different way on the battlefield. Most normal soldiers don't know how to fight mages. My job is to make sure that everyone in my army has the best chance of survival at the end of the day."
