"Hodge was basically the only parent we had," Alec corrected gently. He knew that Izzy didn't forgive easily. Neither did Jace but Hodge had redeemed himself in some ways. He'd helped Alec and he'd helped Simon as much as he could. "He mentored us and helped us plan missions. If he hadn't called Magnus, I would have died. He did betray us but he also could have left me to die an agonizing death." One that still gave him nightmares. Fighting back a shiver, he shrugged, trying to be nonchalant about it but he still glanced away from her momentarily. "I don't know what mom was thinking. They didn't even bother to come home after I was hurt." They'd come back because of Jace and whatever power games Robert was playing at the time.
Everything about the wedding sounded like it could be out of one of those weird demon dreams. Well maybe his parents' version of them. Izzy wouldn't have dreamed up a fiancee for him that was female. It was too confusing to deal with. Why would marrying this Lydia protect anyone?

There were times when Jace drove him crazy but at least his parabatai had always been supportive. Even when the form of that support made Alec either want to die of embarrassment or kick Jace's ass.
"It sounds like some what's in the book is going to be true and some of it isn't. There's a story in there about you. Maybe that one will convince you..." Others might be using it now but as far as I know, only Jace and I have tried it." Flushing slightly at the memory, he mentally winced, knowing Izzy would either find the rest of the story horrifying or hilarious. "Clary created it. We were testing it and Robert and Maryse showed up. I kept demanding that they listen to me so I could announce that I was dating someone. Magnus realized what I was going to do and zapped me before I accidentally outed myself."
