It may be more evident as bothersome than he thinks, simply because he remarks upon it, but Elizabeth pays it no mind. "I have wondered," she admits, "As to whether the natives' lack of information is due to genuine ignorance, alliance with whatever power drew us here, or fear of it. Surely it must be one of the three."

Of course, there isn't much else to do about the matter right now but ponder, and pondering won't accomplish much. "Would you think ill of me if I elected to opt for the merriment of the moment? There's little else we might do for now to alleviate our circumstance." This is rather bold, but she's coming to realize she can crack the strict rules of etiquette of her home. Just a little! Not entirely.

"Could I prevail upon you to seek refreshment, Mr. Mikaelson?"
