The skin of the monster was a lot thicker and harder than Jon had anticipated, but it seemed that it still held weak points, as not only his arrows seemed to inflict damage. A few rounds more and the sea serpent was retreating further into the lake, where arrows could not reach it. The locals turned to catapults and Jon knew there was nothing else he could do to help, at least not for the moment.
There was the tiniest of smile on his lips as he turned to the woman fighting beside him. Where other men of his world would have been fazed about such a thing, Jon had been around enough spearwives to know that gender should not be a factor in battle skills. Both Ygritte and Val could have easily bested him if they had wanted to, after all. But when he caught sight of the woman, his smile changed into surprise: she looked familiar, so familiar that a name bubbled to his lips despite himself:
"Arya?" Could she have been brought here from a time so far into the future that she was now older than him?
