"That is what this is called? A 'ship'?" ne asked curiously, peering over the edge. Apparently heights don't bother nem in the slightest. Then ne settled to sit across from her, offering her a gentle smile. As gentle as one can when one's teeth are jagged and sharp like a mouthful of broken glass, anyway.

"So you don't know where we're going either... Do you know anything at all?" It's a genuine question, not a sarcastic jibe. Ne means to ask if she knows anything about the situation. "It's very bright up here..."

It would be a fair inference to guess that ne means 'above ground' rather than in the sky in particular.
