Test Drive

Welcome to Medietas! Are you interested in joining the game? Do you have an old muse you want to dust off? Are you looking for a place to voice test a brand new character and would like to do so in our little island setting? Well, you've come to the right place!
You all know what to do but if you don’t, just follow the instructions and HAVE FUN!
How To Play:
→ Comment with the character you’d like to test drive. Don’t forget to add their name and canon in the subject line.
→ Choose a scenario, or start your own!
→ Tag around!
Possible Scenarios:
1. New Arrival: You have just arrived on the island of Medietas, in the city of Aerilon via a floating boat with people you may or may not know. Of course, you can't help wondering what the heck is going on here, or how you even got on the boat in the first place. But as soon as the vessel docks you are greeted by some lovely locals who offer you a map and a communications device before leaving you to your own. You probably have questions and there seems to be a number of people there already who may or may not have those answers. Talk to them! Or, get on the network and introduce yourself!
2. Getting Settled: So, you've arrived, but now there's five islands you should get yourself acquainted with. Meet your starter home neighbors! Start your new job! Check out the market on Aerilon. Or, attend one of the many block parties!
3. Lost!: Somehow you got yourself turned around and confused and getting back to where you want to be is looking impossible.
4. Wild Card: Got something else in mind and want to create your own scenario? Go for it!
melisandre of asshai | asoiaf/got
[ The woman who speaks over the communication device to the network is red of hair — the color of burnished copper, to be precise — with a sleek but curvy build apparent through the form-fitting robes she wears, and a heart-shaped face with full lips and wide-set eyes. As she speaks her sonorous voice lilts gently in both wonder and knowing, her words flavored with her exotic Asshai'i accent.
At her throat, a large red ruby adorning a red-gold choker glows visibly over the feed. ]
I have come by way of a boat that sails through the air, with nothing to hold it aloft, to a city that floats. I believe this must be a sign from the Lord of Light that I am where I need be the most, even if it means I am no longer at the Wall, the hinge of the world where the great battle will be commencing between Light and Dark.
From what I understand such a battle took place here, on the land that became this floating magical city as well, halted only by the forging of a powerful artifact. If there is more to hear concerning this creation, this artifact, I would encourage you who are listening to speak.
Understanding the world we are now in is tantamount to knowing the roles each of us will play in this endeavor, will it not? [ her full lips curve upward, quirking at the corners. ]
For we all must choose. Man or woman, young or old, lord or servant, our choices are the same. We choose light, or we choose darkness.
(If one is inclined, you can find Melisandre either on the beaches of Imber, overlooking the crystalline water as she sits before a warm bonfire and stares intently into the flames; or, on the island of Aerilon at the great market, perusing wares and particularly red and gold jewelry. Or another scenario of your choosing!)
video
Melisandre has the potential of being more annoying too, particularly considering the fact that Ren decided he was going to actually engage in this conversation. For now, he's wearing his mask.]
What makes you certain that the light is the correct path? [He's assuming, at least, considering she said she serves some lord.] True power lies in the dark side.
video
There is power in both Light and Dark, for they are two sides of the same coin and will forever be engaged in struggle with one another. But one will prevail. The Lord of Light wills it so.
[ she tilts her head curiously. ] You cloak yourself in darkness, leaving nothing revealed, as though the light would burn you. Is this what you fear?
video
[Definitely not here though, and perhaps not even back home, but he can dream.]
I fear nothing.
[Not true.]
The light is a weakness that I have cast away. [Also not true, but he's trying.]
video
[ She studies him closely again as he protests, listening to his modulated voice and the inflections in it, and the hidden nuances underneath his tersely-delivered words. ]
...You struggle with it, within yourself. There is a great divide of both Light and Dark within you. [ ...and, there's something else... ]
Will you reveal to me your face? Unmasked.
video
The struggled between Light and Dark makes perfect sense to him, of course, so it's possible that Melisandre is one of the few reasonable people he's encountered. If she has opinions he agrees with, that is.
After a moment of hesitation, he takes off his mask and sets it aside, revealing his youthful, unmarred face.]
What is it you think you see?
video
She focuses on his strengths. ] ...A warrior.
You come from a great bloodline, one that boasts not only royalty but sheer power. Godlike power, that many seek to obtain or hold for themselves, but only a very select, chosen few are born with.
You are touched by the divine.
video
Of course, that's not something he's ready to admit to her.]
You're insightful, that's all common knowledge.
[Except it isn't, because only a handful of people know that Kylo Ren is Ben Solo, who in some other reality may have embraced his royal heritage and followed in his mother's footsteps.
But that's not him.]
Re: melisandre of asshai | asoiaf/got
A moment later, he's flicked his viewer on and he is staring into the screen]
Hello, Miss. My name is Podrick Payne. Welcome to Medietas.
If I may ask... you are from Westeros, yes?
video;
...From Asshai, in the Shadow-Lands, where the Ash river meets the Jade Sea. But that is my origin; I have indeed arrived here in this land from Westeros.
And you? You've undoubtedly heard of the faith of R'hollor in your travels.
video;
[He gulped, then smiled faintly, nodding.]I have, yes, milady. I don't know much, but I've heard that Lord Stannis Baratheon had a Red priest adviser.
[He watches her, curiously.] Did you just arrive? Has anyone helped you?
video;
[ But Stannis is preparing to leave the Wall to march on Winterfell, a move she does not necessarily have complete faith in. ]
I have only recently arrived here in Medietas, but I am acclimating quickly. [ Her smile is calm, placid, but with an underlying knowing look. ] What assistance would you have to offer, Podrick Payne?
Re: video;
Well, I'm no expert, but I know which food places cook food like those we have back home, and which clothing stores have experience working with those of us who are newer to the general aesthetic of fashion here. I also work at a sewing and tailoring shop and could help repair or craft clothing of a particular kind, if you needed it. [He isn't bragging as he speaks but listing off, slowly, things he thinks of, nibbling one lip as he does.]
I know it's not much, but frankly, its nice to see a face from home, even one I don't know.
no subject
Lord of Light, is it?
[Broad accent, all the way from the Australian desert. Voice flat, unimpressed.]
no subject
He is the Lord of Light, yes. R'hollor, the one true god, whom we as priests and priestesses serve.
[ She looks gently, kindly on the girl, although with a knowing look in her eyes. ] He sees us for our imperfections, one and all, and welcomes us into his fold with his purifying light.
no subject
[Her voice makes it clear she's quoting, and despite the tired hardness around her eyes, she doesn't sound anything but neutral.]
no subject
[ She tilts her head, pondering. ] But you're not interested in the savior of my world, are you? You have no interest in saviors at all.
no subject
[Her home world is dying, dying, but Medietas is now the only world she has.]
But, no. I don't have much interest. Last person who talked 'bout saviours to me, he's the same man who has his logo seared into my back. Because he thought that saving us meant that he owned us.
'Sides. All these saviours seem to be blokes.
video;
Ygritte fumbles a bit, but manages to turn her device onto 'video'.]
What do ya mean by a great battle? Did the Long Night come?
video;
Someone red, kissed by fire. ]
Not yet. But it is coming, there will be no other inevitability.
You're versed in the lore, then? Of what comes down from the Lands of Always Winter?
Re: melisandre of asshai | asoiaf/got
He's bored. Floating cities and islands of wonderment are not his place, nor his interest: there is no king to protect and no sister to seek out, love, defend.
Consequently: bored. "Lords of Light, the Seven, those...strange tree-gods the Northerners worship: we play the same roles no matter the name we call our puppetmaster."
Bored, and exasperated. He can see no direct route home, and it is gnawing on his nerves, a slow grind of teeth, seeking to meet through the soft tissue of his throat. "I know mine."
His role has never changed. "Can you say the same? Or will your Lord send along a raven to notify you, help you settle in a bit?"
