Test Drive

Welcome to Medietas! Are you interested in joining the game? Do you have an old muse you want to dust off? Are you looking for a place to voice test a brand new character and would like to do so in our little island setting? Well, you've come to the right place!
You all know what to do but if you don’t, just follow the instructions and HAVE FUN!
How To Play:
→ Comment with the character you’d like to test drive. Don’t forget to add their name and canon in the subject line.
→ Choose a scenario, or start your own!
→ Tag around!
Possible Scenarios:
1. New Arrival: You have just arrived on the island of Medietas, in the city of Aerilon via a floating boat with people you may or may not know. Of course, you can't help wondering what the heck is going on here, or how you even got on the boat in the first place. But as soon as the vessel docks you are greeted by some lovely locals who offer you a map and a communications device before leaving you to your own. You probably have questions and there seems to be a number of people there already who may or may not have those answers. Talk to them! Or, get on the network and introduce yourself!
2. Getting Settled: So, you've arrived, but now there's five islands you should get yourself acquainted with. Meet your starter home neighbors! Start your new job! Check out the market on Aerilon. Or, attend one of the many block parties!
3. Lost!: Somehow you got yourself turned around and confused and getting back to where you want to be is looking impossible.
4. Wild Card: Got something else in mind and want to create your own scenario? Go for it!

Why care? Well...
"Cos' why not? Why do I need a reason? I'm a freakin' lion. I don't need a reason for much' anything. Sides, you're a kid. I'd rather help you than some grown up."
no subject
"You don't like 'em, like me?" As if realizing he came off way more interested than he wanted to show, he scoffed and shrugged before tugging on his cap.
"I mean, s'not like they're much help." Kids always seemed more willing to accept Duo than adults, anyway. But that totally wasn't the reason why he scooted just slightly closer to the cat. Okay, it wasn't the entire reason. Maybe he was a little intrigued in the talking cat now that the initial shock had worn off.
no subject
"Most of em are just selfish bastards who want you to do what they want or make sure you stay outta their way and keep your mouth shut." He winces a little actually.
"An' everyone here is weird. They're too nice." Which really kind of freaked him out actually. Part of him still wanted to believe this was some kind of evil plot. Maybe everyone's a robot? Nah. That'd be silly.
"No help unless you're helping them." He huffs, his nose creasing. Bah. Duo scoots closer to him and he tenses slightly, mostly because he just wasn't sure about what the kid's deal was.
That and sometimes little kids liked to hug him randomly and he wasn't really in the mood for that.
"You hurt? Or hungry?" Cause that he could do, kiddo. "I know a place that does bacon cheese burgers pretty good."
no subject
His hand slowly reached out to barely poke at the cat's paw.
Or he would have... If the mention of food hadn't caught his attention. His hand stopped just before he touched the paw.
"Food?" Duo's stomach gave a rather loud rumble, and he quickly pulled back. "I can't pay for it. S'okay. I c'n go a bit before I need to eat."
no subject
He picks up his paw slightly when the kid stops and nudges the kid's hand with it, then walks past him.
"Then I guess just come back to where I've been staying. I'm pretty sure they're gonna toss you there anyway, but they got food." He snorts, glancing back at him once he passes.
"Don't get any ideas. I ain't goin' to school or doin' what they tell me. I'm just eatin' their food and sleepin' there cos I can. They don't bug me, but then, who's crazy enough to make a lion go to school anyway?"
no subject
Duo scoffed a bit and stood up, making sure to dust off his cassock. He tugged on his cap a bit, mostly just to hide his eyes.
"Sure. I'll go with ya." What? The cat had things he wanted and needed. And also the cat had really piqued his interest. So Duo trotted up to the lion, staying within touching distance, but making sure he could easily bolt if this was all a trick.
"Grown-ups like throwin' their weight around. They're bigger than kids, so obviously they know more than us." He gave a derisive snort. "They don't know anything. Maybe they need to go to school."
no subject
"I guess I can cook something or figure out how. You can grab a shower and clean up while I do that." Probably for the best, the kid had a pretty poignant odor of kid smell and stress and unwashed clothes.
"Hehe...you said it, bruv. I'd like to see them practice what they preach. Be seen and not heard, do as I say not as I do...hypocrites." And besides that they only do that for their own benefit.
"How bout when they tell you lies to make you comply? Tell you that they're the ones you should trust but they're the ones who put you in hell to start with?" And try to brainwash you as well.
no subject
Duo's steps actually slowed some, even as he reached out for the lion's t-shirt. He couldn't help his mind going back to the ruins of the church, to Father Maxwell, to Sister Helen. His grip tightened some as he managed a quiet "Yeah" through gritted teeth.
Adults were liars. The only ones who didn't lie were dead. Sniffling again, Duo spoke again.
"Like back on the colony. The Alliance did that to take over the colonies. S'just a hellhole now." Out of the mouths of babes?
no subject
The hand on his shoulder makes him stop, his jaw parting slightly as he begins to pant. His ears turning back slightly, glad that the sun was setting now so he could relax a bit.
Except he just dropped a little nugget that made his ears fold tighter against his head.
"...These Colonies of yours sound about as bad as the Rogue isles." Hellhole is exactly the word he used.
"Called it the City of Villains for good reason."
no subject
Duo sniffled again, then lifted his arm to wipe his eyes with his sleeves. He immediately wipes off the rest of his face. He was sweating, the heat more apparent now that he had calmed down a bit and able to focus on other things. This was something different. Yes, he had gotten hot before, but not like this. The colony kept itself at a steady temperature. It didn't really rain or snow or anything, so being in a place where weather actually changed...
"Why's it so hot, anyway? Is somethin' broken?" Yeah, you try going from space to...whatever this place is.
no subject
He ignores the remark about something being broken and pulls Duo close to him in a hug. It's brief, because it's too hot.
"Hang in there. I won't let nobody hurt, you, alright?" So no more tears.
no subject
The lion pulled away and Duo was grateful, somewhat because of the heat, but also due to the fight or flight response he was experiencing. It was all so unusual. No one else had hugged him since Sister Helen. He couldn't decide whether or not he liked this one.
But the comment made Duo frown a little. Underestimating Duo wasn't all that smart.
"M'not worried 'bout gettin' hurt. I put kids in the hospital because they made fun of me." Despite the weird hug, and the lion insulting him but not really, Duo reached out again to take hold of the lion's t-shirt. "But sure...okay."
With his free hand, Duo tugged down on his hat. "M'Duo."
no subject
"Rr. You put kids in the hospital. All that talk about adults bein' assholes, I thought they were the reason you're... I dunno. Sad? Grief? Angry? Doesn't have to be physical. Worse is when they don't lay a hand on you and cause you to be miserable." He can relate, and the hand is still on his shoulder.
He stands on all fours, making a chuffing noise. "Climb on. It'll be faster that way. An' I'm Shadow."
no subject
And then the lion was telling him to hop on its back. Duo blinked, a little confused, as was evident in the way he raised a brow at Shadow. If it was faster, then why not?
"If you say so." And without any hesitation, Duo climbed on board, though not quite sure what he was suppose to hang on to. Guess the shirt will have to do.
no subject
"You'll never see a kid, even if he's a mean little shit, say 'hey let's go bomb those guys'. You know, like, outside'a pretend game or them makin' up stories." Even the meanest kids at the Nest Academy didn't really think about starting wars, even if they were encouraged to pick on the younger kids. They were dreaming of heists and glory in battle, not the same way adults did even so.
Once Duo is on his back, he starts trotting along not really running, but he was still faster than a walk, and it was the fastest he could maintain in this heat.
Eventually they'd get to the bifrost bridge, get past that and enjoy the breeze, even if it was hot, it was still a breeze. Amazingly, it did get a good deal cooler when they made it across.
no subject
The pair reached the bridge, and Duo couldn't help but enjoy the breeze. It was...nice. Something like this didn't really happen on the colony, so it was certainly a new experience considering this didn't come from a passing vehicle.
"How can the temperature go from hot to cooled off like this? I don't see a fan or air vents." Please excuse the space kid and his curiosity.
no subject
"I think it's cos of the fact that the islands got different climates. Don't ask me how that works, I don't know. I'm just chalking it up to the magic that exists here." It was only a difference of about ten degrees.
"When you said colonies, what did you mean?"
no subject
"Space colonies. They float up in space and can hold a bunch of people. There are lots of them, but only like, five groups? L1, L2, L3, L4, and L5. I'm from L2." Duo frowned a little in thought as one of his hands moved from Shadow's shirt to touch the fur on the back of the lion's neck. It was kind of soft there. Were lions suppose to be soft? "It's a bunch of fake stuff on the colony. Night and day's on timers, air is given through vents, and the temperature's all the same. It doesn't change."
no subject
His mane was fairly soft, a little frizzy, but it was fur, not hair. The shorter fur around his neck was really soft and fuzzy.
"Artificial you mean? Oh. Okay." He keep on walking, nearing the city and off the bridge now.
"Well, welcome to... Some planet. Terrestrial, floaty island world." THAT MAKES SENSE RIGHT?!
Right.
"Best not to question it right now."
no subject
Of course, the Earth Sphere and this terrestial, floaty island world did not seem to match any description of that. He wanted to ask, but Shadow didn't know more than what he had already said. Maybe someone else would know? Or maybe not. Oh well. He'll figure it out sometime.
"M'kay. S'just...weird. I've never seen anything like this 'fore."
no subject
"I was told of a place called the 'Shadow Shard'. Same kinda deal, floaty islands and the like. Only difference is that there's all kinds of crazy monsters there. Like... my Grandpa showed me a drawing once. Monsters that were winged eyeballs and stuff. I'd never go there. But most of what Grandpa told me was true, just so I'd know what I needed to look out for."
no subject
"We didn't have to worry 'bout all that. Just...the Alliance. Loads of people got sick once..." BUT ENOUGH ABOUT THAT! Duo shook his head and looked at the environment around him. Loads of buildings, like the colony. But these were nicer. Much nicer.
"How much longer 'til we get to where we're going?"
no subject
"Sick, huh? I bet, a big floating space station n' the sky they prolly fucked up with something. Rebreathing the same air, redrinking the same water. Ick."
"If I run, I'll probably fall right over when we get there." But he does pick up the pace.
"You ever seen a horse before?"
no subject
"Y'don't gotta run. I was just curious. S'all new and stuff." Gotta learn the ropes. And about horses...
"Not...in real life. In books, but that's it. We don't need 'em. We got cars and shuttles and the Alliance has mobile suits."
no subject
"You had that at least. I lived in a pirate ship for a while but it was all broke." Nice enough a place to hide.
"Maybe later I'll show you ny sword."
