Test Drive

Welcome to Medietas! Are you interested in joining the game? Do you have an old muse you want to dust off? Are you looking for a place to voice test a brand new character and would like to do so in our little island setting? Well, you've come to the right place!

You all know what to do but if you don’t, just follow the instructions and HAVE FUN!

How To Play:

→ Comment with the character you’d like to test drive. Don’t forget to add their name and canon in the subject line.
→ Choose a scenario, or start your own!
→ Tag around!

Possible Scenarios:

1. New Arrival: You have just arrived on the island of Medietas, in the city of Aerilon via a floating boat with people you may or may not know. Of course, you can't help wondering what the heck is going on here, or how you even got on the boat in the first place. But as soon as the vessel docks you are greeted by some lovely locals who offer you a map and a communications device before leaving you to your own. You probably have questions and there seems to be a number of people there already who may or may not have those answers. Talk to them! Or, get on the network and introduce yourself!

2. Getting Settled: So, you've arrived, but now there's five islands you should get yourself acquainted with. Meet your starter home neighbors! Start your new job! Check out the market on Aerilon. Or, attend one of the many block parties!

3. Lost!: Somehow you got yourself turned around and confused and getting back to where you want to be is looking impossible.

4. Wild Card: Got something else in mind and want to create your own scenario? Go for it!

He usually doesn't meet people as young as this kid, and he was aware of the fact that most people don't exactly fawn over half grown lion cubs like they do kittens or puppies. Well okay then, don't thank him. He wrinkles his nose and grunts softly, but just otherwise waits for him to answer.

Why care? Well...

"Cos' why not? Why do I need a reason? I'm a freakin' lion. I don't need a reason for much' anything. Sides, you're a kid. I'd rather help you than some grown up."

If Duo had been an animal, his ears would have twitched with interest. The giant cat doesn't like adults either? Duo looked up quick-like, his eyes wide.

"You don't like 'em, like me?" As if realizing he came off way more interested than he wanted to show, he scoffed and shrugged before tugging on his cap.

"I mean, s'not like they're much help." Kids always seemed more willing to accept Duo than adults, anyway. But that totally wasn't the reason why he scooted just slightly closer to the cat. Okay, it wasn't the entire reason. Maybe he was a little intrigued in the talking cat now that the initial shock had worn off.
orions_shadow: (Seriously?)

[personal profile] orions_shadow 2016-06-06 12:16 pm (UTC)(link)
That was like striking a nerve, only the opposite, where they didn't get angry with you. Either way he wasn't gonna complain about the kid relaxing even if a little.

"Most of em are just selfish bastards who want you to do what they want or make sure you stay outta their way and keep your mouth shut." He winces a little actually.

"An' everyone here is weird. They're too nice." Which really kind of freaked him out actually. Part of him still wanted to believe this was some kind of evil plot. Maybe everyone's a robot? Nah. That'd be silly.

"No help unless you're helping them." He huffs, his nose creasing. Bah. Duo scoots closer to him and he tenses slightly, mostly because he just wasn't sure about what the kid's deal was.

That and sometimes little kids liked to hug him randomly and he wasn't really in the mood for that.

"You hurt? Or hungry?" Cause that he could do, kiddo. "I know a place that does bacon cheese burgers pretty good."
alive_through_luck: (A church?)

[personal profile] alive_through_luck 2016-06-09 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Duo nodded as he listened, quiet as he slowly came to the conclusion that the cat wasn't so bad. He scooted a little closer and closer, inch by inch until he was at least within touching distance. He might have gone through a lot for a kid his age, but he was still a kid, and so he was extremely curious. If this cat was gonna be an ally, then Duo needed to inspect.

His hand slowly reached out to barely poke at the cat's paw.

Or he would have... If the mention of food hadn't caught his attention. His hand stopped just before he touched the paw.

"Food?" Duo's stomach gave a rather loud rumble, and he quickly pulled back. "I can't pay for it. S'okay. I c'n go a bit before I need to eat."
orions_shadow: (shad_0047_Layer-15)

[personal profile] orions_shadow 2016-06-09 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
He watched the kid scoot towards him, inch by inch, tilting his head at the behavior. He hadn't been around kids much, but then he could imagine being in his shoes.

He picks up his paw slightly when the kid stops and nudges the kid's hand with it, then walks past him.

"Then I guess just come back to where I've been staying. I'm pretty sure they're gonna toss you there anyway, but they got food." He snorts, glancing back at him once he passes.

"Don't get any ideas. I ain't goin' to school or doin' what they tell me. I'm just eatin' their food and sleepin' there cos I can. They don't bug me, but then, who's crazy enough to make a lion go to school anyway?"
alive_through_luck: (Don't get all high and mighty.)

[personal profile] alive_through_luck 2016-06-09 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
The tiny human child watched after the talking lion, blinking after his hand was nudged. The cat has a place to stay? And it had food? And it wasn't a cell?

Duo scoffed a bit and stood up, making sure to dust off his cassock. He tugged on his cap a bit, mostly just to hide his eyes.

"Sure. I'll go with ya." What? The cat had things he wanted and needed. And also the cat had really piqued his interest. So Duo trotted up to the lion, staying within touching distance, but making sure he could easily bolt if this was all a trick.

"Grown-ups like throwin' their weight around. They're bigger than kids, so obviously they know more than us." He gave a derisive snort. "They don't know anything. Maybe they need to go to school."

[personal profile] orions_shadow 2016-06-09 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
And it was comfortable, better than staying outside while it was daylight and hot out. He walked along on his two legs now torwards the bifrost.

"I guess I can cook something or figure out how. You can grab a shower and clean up while I do that." Probably for the best, the kid had a pretty poignant odor of kid smell and stress and unwashed clothes.

"Hehe...you said it, bruv. I'd like to see them practice what they preach. Be seen and not heard, do as I say not as I do...hypocrites." And besides that they only do that for their own benefit.

"How bout when they tell you lies to make you comply? Tell you that they're the ones you should trust but they're the ones who put you in hell to start with?" And try to brainwash you as well.
alive_through_luck: (No.)

[personal profile] alive_through_luck 2016-06-16 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
That...actually hit a little too close to home for Duo. The lying to make you comply. Wasn't that exactly what the Alliance had originally done to gain control of the Earth Sphere and the colonies? Told the people of Earth that the colonies needed to be wrangled in for there to be peace just to have permission to use force...

Duo's steps actually slowed some, even as he reached out for the lion's t-shirt. He couldn't help his mind going back to the ruins of the church, to Father Maxwell, to Sister Helen. His grip tightened some as he managed a quiet "Yeah" through gritted teeth.

Adults were liars. The only ones who didn't lie were dead. Sniffling again, Duo spoke again.

"Like back on the colony. The Alliance did that to take over the colonies. S'just a hellhole now." Out of the mouths of babes?
orions_shadow: (shad_0031_Layer-31)

[personal profile] orions_shadow 2016-06-17 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Shad might disagree with that extreme. Some adults did tell the truth and some times they were nice, but he found that was rarely the case. He would rather hang out with those of his own age than the drama of adulthood.

The hand on his shoulder makes him stop, his jaw parting slightly as he begins to pant. His ears turning back slightly, glad that the sun was setting now so he could relax a bit.

Except he just dropped a little nugget that made his ears fold tighter against his head.

"...These Colonies of yours sound about as bad as the Rogue isles." Hellhole is exactly the word he used.

"Called it the City of Villains for good reason."
alive_through_luck: (I smelled like sewer.)

[personal profile] alive_through_luck 2016-06-18 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe they should call the Earth Sphere that." It was an appropriate enough description. The Alliance twisted their words and twisted the people, so now it was just a planet of villains.

Duo sniffled again, then lifted his arm to wipe his eyes with his sleeves. He immediately wipes off the rest of his face. He was sweating, the heat more apparent now that he had calmed down a bit and able to focus on other things. This was something different. Yes, he had gotten hot before, but not like this. The colony kept itself at a steady temperature. It didn't really rain or snow or anything, so being in a place where weather actually changed...

"Why's it so hot, anyway? Is somethin' broken?" Yeah, you try going from space to...whatever this place is.
orions_shadow: (Losing faith)

[personal profile] orions_shadow 2016-06-18 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe. I think most people are just trying to get by and they're so mad they take it out on us." So not ALL people are bad. Just most of them. He glances at Duo, his ears drooping a bit at the fact he's still crying. It was hot, but the kid needed this.

He ignores the remark about something being broken and pulls Duo close to him in a hug. It's brief, because it's too hot.

"Hang in there. I won't let nobody hurt, you, alright?" So no more tears.
alive_through_luck: (Don't get all high and mighty.)

[personal profile] alive_through_luck 2016-06-18 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
The hug was a surprise to Duo. Never in his wildest dreams would he have imagined a lion, a talking lion, giving him a hug. He felt himself stiffen in the embrace. It was so weird. And the fact that the last person to give him a hug was now dead...

The lion pulled away and Duo was grateful, somewhat because of the heat, but also due to the fight or flight response he was experiencing. It was all so unusual. No one else had hugged him since Sister Helen. He couldn't decide whether or not he liked this one.

But the comment made Duo frown a little. Underestimating Duo wasn't all that smart.

"M'not worried 'bout gettin' hurt. I put kids in the hospital because they made fun of me." Despite the weird hug, and the lion insulting him but not really, Duo reached out again to take hold of the lion's t-shirt. "But sure...okay."

With his free hand, Duo tugged down on his hat. "M'Duo."
orions_shadow: (Hard to say)

[personal profile] orions_shadow 2016-06-18 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
It was awkward for him too, but he just had to do it. Felt like the thing to do. He glances back at the kid and rumble at him, a low neutral sounding lion sound. Hard not to notice the kid stiffening, and fair enough, because if a stranger did that to him he'd do the same thing, likely.

"Rr. You put kids in the hospital. All that talk about adults bein' assholes, I thought they were the reason you're... I dunno. Sad? Grief? Angry? Doesn't have to be physical. Worse is when they don't lay a hand on you and cause you to be miserable." He can relate, and the hand is still on his shoulder.

He stands on all fours, making a chuffing noise. "Climb on. It'll be faster that way. An' I'm Shadow."
alive_through_luck: (They keep making orphans like me.)

[personal profile] alive_through_luck 2016-06-18 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"Adults are bad. Worse than kids. I just didn't like 'em makin' fun of me." Short fuse. "Adults start wars, and that makes more orphans." But it was the comment about pain not having to be physical that made Duo bite the inside of his jaw. He was right. He wasn't physically hurt. The Alliance didn't hit him or blow him up (even if they had shot at him once or twice), but the loss of people he got close to...

And then the lion was telling him to hop on its back. Duo blinked, a little confused, as was evident in the way he raised a brow at Shadow. If it was faster, then why not?

"If you say so." And without any hesitation, Duo climbed on board, though not quite sure what he was suppose to hang on to. Guess the shirt will have to do.
orions_shadow: (Portal running)

[personal profile] orions_shadow 2016-06-18 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's pretty much about it, exactly." Shad agrees.

"You'll never see a kid, even if he's a mean little shit, say 'hey let's go bomb those guys'. You know, like, outside'a pretend game or them makin' up stories." Even the meanest kids at the Nest Academy didn't really think about starting wars, even if they were encouraged to pick on the younger kids. They were dreaming of heists and glory in battle, not the same way adults did even so.

Once Duo is on his back, he starts trotting along not really running, but he was still faster than a walk, and it was the fastest he could maintain in this heat.

Eventually they'd get to the bifrost bridge, get past that and enjoy the breeze, even if it was hot, it was still a breeze. Amazingly, it did get a good deal cooler when they made it across.

alive_through_luck: (A church?)

[personal profile] alive_through_luck 2016-06-20 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Well, this was different. Duo had never ridden anything that wasn't on wheels. His hands tightened on Shadow's shirt as he tried his best to stay in place. He would have wrapped his legs around the lion, but he was far too small for that. Good thing his balance was pretty decent.

The pair reached the bridge, and Duo couldn't help but enjoy the breeze. It was...nice. Something like this didn't really happen on the colony, so it was certainly a new experience considering this didn't come from a passing vehicle.

"How can the temperature go from hot to cooled off like this? I don't see a fan or air vents." Please excuse the space kid and his curiosity.
orions_shadow: (Default)

[personal profile] orions_shadow 2016-06-20 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Duo probably could if he tried, Shad wasn't really that big. He was just big enough to give the tiny kid a ride. It was like riding the pony version of a lion.

"I think it's cos of the fact that the islands got different climates. Don't ask me how that works, I don't know. I'm just chalking it up to the magic that exists here." It was only a difference of about ten degrees.

"When you said colonies, what did you mean?"
alive_through_luck: (I'm suppose to beg now.)

[personal profile] alive_through_luck 2016-06-22 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"...Oh." Yeah, that all just went over Duo's head. Climates? Magic? But colonies...colonies Duo could talk about.

"Space colonies. They float up in space and can hold a bunch of people. There are lots of them, but only like, five groups? L1, L2, L3, L4, and L5. I'm from L2." Duo frowned a little in thought as one of his hands moved from Shadow's shirt to touch the fur on the back of the lion's neck. It was kind of soft there. Were lions suppose to be soft? "It's a bunch of fake stuff on the colony. Night and day's on timers, air is given through vents, and the temperature's all the same. It doesn't change."
orions_shadow: (Complaining)

[personal profile] orions_shadow 2016-06-22 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
So like space stations. He sort of understood that, he read a book with a space station in it once.

His mane was fairly soft, a little frizzy, but it was fur, not hair. The shorter fur around his neck was really soft and fuzzy.

"Artificial you mean? Oh. Okay." He keep on walking, nearing the city and off the bridge now.

"Well, welcome to... Some planet. Terrestrial, floaty island world." THAT MAKES SENSE RIGHT?!

Right.

"Best not to question it right now."
alive_through_luck: (A church?)

[personal profile] alive_through_luck 2016-06-25 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
"I know 'bout planets," Duo huffed, but he was still interested in what he could learn. He never left the colony, and while the Earth Sphere people seemed like a bunch who would believe anything, the planet itself...Duo wanted to know more.

Of course, the Earth Sphere and this terrestial, floaty island world did not seem to match any description of that. He wanted to ask, but Shadow didn't know more than what he had already said. Maybe someone else would know? Or maybe not. Oh well. He'll figure it out sometime.

"M'kay. S'just...weird. I've never seen anything like this 'fore."
orions_shadow: (Chatty cat)

[personal profile] orions_shadow 2016-06-25 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Good. He nods, but keeps walking out towards the kidcamp. He thinks about how to respond to what Duo has to say, then glances back starting to speak between pants. He looked overexerted now. Need some water when they get back for sure.

"I was told of a place called the 'Shadow Shard'. Same kinda deal, floaty islands and the like. Only difference is that there's all kinds of crazy monsters there. Like... my Grandpa showed me a drawing once. Monsters that were winged eyeballs and stuff. I'd never go there. But most of what Grandpa told me was true, just so I'd know what I needed to look out for."
alive_through_luck: (Made it this far through luck.)

[personal profile] alive_through_luck 2016-06-27 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Winged eyes? Monsters? More floaty islands? What the hell?

"We didn't have to worry 'bout all that. Just...the Alliance. Loads of people got sick once..." BUT ENOUGH ABOUT THAT! Duo shook his head and looked at the environment around him. Loads of buildings, like the colony. But these were nicer. Much nicer.

"How much longer 'til we get to where we're going?"
orions_shadow: (Chatty cat)

[personal profile] orions_shadow 2016-06-27 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"Give or take five minutes. Ida run if it weren't so hot. At least you get to ride." So hush up, little monkey.

"Sick, huh? I bet, a big floating space station n' the sky they prolly fucked up with something. Rebreathing the same air, redrinking the same water. Ick."

"If I run, I'll probably fall right over when we get there." But he does pick up the pace.

"You ever seen a horse before?"
alive_through_luck: (I smelled like sewer.)

[personal profile] alive_through_luck 2016-06-30 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"Was more than that. It was a plague. S'what the adults called it. And the Alliance were the only folks who had medicine that could cure it." He had stolen some for Solo, but he was too late. He gripped at Shadow's shirt tighter, and it took a moment for him to realize it. Duo loosened his hold with a huff.

"Y'don't gotta run. I was just curious. S'all new and stuff." Gotta learn the ropes. And about horses...

"Not...in real life. In books, but that's it. We don't need 'em. We got cars and shuttles and the Alliance has mobile suits."
orions_shadow: (Chatty cat)

[personal profile] orions_shadow 2016-06-30 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ew." A plague sounded gross. The whole thing sounded terrible, but he wasn't gonna do that false sympathy thing like adults did.

"You had that at least. I lived in a pirate ship for a while but it was all broke." Nice enough a place to hide.

"Maybe later I'll show you ny sword."
