She thought about all of the things she could ask. Things that would prove just what he did or didn't know about what had been going through her mind when she left since he'd claimed to not always stay out of her head as he'd promised. But that would be reopening an old wound, one scarred over from time and distance. And even if she'd needed those answers, this wasn't the time or place to dig into something like that.

"Who was I pretending to be the very first time we met?"

She'd told Erik this story and, by extension, possibly Emma, but neither were in a position to have shared that even if there'd been a reason. But there was a possibility that someone who knew what she could do could guess. It wasn't like there'd been a bevy of adult figured in Charles' life. So she added the next question.

"And what did I offer to get you to go back to bed?"
