The first being that Regina had flat out lied to him about Belle's demise. He was partially furious with her over that, but also in a small way angry at himself for accepting it as easily as he had. He should have looked into it, but he hadn't... he'd accepted it and moved on with his goal to reunite with his son, while nursing a grief and more regrets that he could have settled had he not bought Regina's tale so easily or completely.
He wondered just where Belle had been within the town during the curse. Regina no doubt had her tucked away out of his sight, so her falsehood wasn't revealed for the lie it was.
He gave her a quiet smile that held an undertone of sorrow and regret, yet he tried to sound reassuring and proud as he addressed her last statement.]
