For a moment all Alec could do was stare at the spot where Jace had been. Dread clawed its way up his throat while he waited for that feeling of emptiness that had been his only warning before the parabatai rune had started to burn. No, Jace couldn't be... Gabriel wouldn't do that. He was good. He wouldn't hurt Jace for being an idiot.
Before he could even process his thoughts, the bar disappeared and they were at a... lake? Reminding himself that he had to breathe, he focused on Gabriel instead of what could have happened. The rune didn't hurt... would it hurt if it wasn't his Jace?
The hand on his shoulder kept him from doing something stupid like trying to jump in after his not quite parabatai. "We're soul bound to each other. There's no other bond between Shadowhunters that's stronger. If one dies, the other usually follows." There were other, worse things, that happened to parabatai but Alec wasn't going to explain that when he was trying to see some sign of Jace getting out of the water.
Letting out a frustrated, impatient sound he called out to the other Shadowhunter. "Get over here and apologize before he does something worse than throw you in a lake!"
