"I learned from the best," she whispered to him, anything else she might have said was lost as she was loaded onto the stretcher, and brought away. She didn't want that. She wanted to be looking at him until the very last moment.
It hadn't yet sunk in that this wasn't the last moment after all.
It would probably be nearly an hour, most of which she thankfully slept through, before they would declare that she would be fine. They told him that he could sit with her, if he wanted. The space suit had to be cut off of her, showing the jump suit she was wearing under. She was pale, laying there, asleep, but breathing more easily. Her pulse strong and steady.
She was alive. Somehow, despite logic and memory and history, she was here. And she was alive.
