Eleven | Stranger Things

Eleven doesn't remember how she ended up on the boat. She remembers the monster, the lab, running, hiding in the woods, and falling asleep. Maybe it's a dream, but it feels so real. There's too many people, though. Far too many people. It's terrifying, and overwhelming, although none of them really seem to take too much interest in her, even though the young girl with the filthy hospital gown, a buzzcut, and no shoes probably looks out of place. She spends the boat ride hiding in the hold, curled up behind some crates, with her knees pulled up to her chest under her gown.

The boat docks, and she quietly slips back up topside to see where they are. It's baffling. This clearly isn't the Upside Down, it's not another lab either, but it's nothing like the woods she fell asleep in. It's bright and warm, and the docks are scary busy, bustling with new arrivals and locals greeting them. Eleven's eyes widen, and she backs up, about to turn and bolt back to the quiet safety of the hold when her eyes meet those of a crew member, who looks a bit surprised that she hasn't already disembarked with the rest of the passengers.

Spotted, she's frozen. What if the bad men are here? What if the crew member calls them? What if he's one of them? What if they take her to another lab? No, no, no. She can't go back. Not ever. She's sure after what she did - after letting the monster out, after escaping, they'll kill her if they catch her. The only solution she can see is not an appealing one, but she knows she has to avoid being caught at all costs.

Her eyes narrow in concentration, and the crew member flies backwards, as though shoved by some powerful, invisible force, stunning him momentarily. Eleven takes advantage of the moment and sprints for freedom, shoving her way through the crowd on the dock, ignoring the locals, trying to hand her her map and communication device.

She doesn't keep track of where she's run - her bid to escape is frantic; just try to find a place that's quiet, a place to hide, and she'll figure out where to go from there. By the time she finds a quiet neighbourhood, she isn't how far she's gone, or how to get back to the docks, but it doesn't really matter. The docks are too busy, and too dangerous, and going back means it's far too likely she'll be found. Looking around, and assured that she hasn't been followed, she finds her way into an alley, and sits down behind a dumpster, breathing hard.
