No matter what Hodge did, Alec couldn't hate him. That probably was strange to Izzy since she became angry so easily, cutting herself off from anyone who slighted her but Alec could forgive their old teacher. Maybe if there had been other adults in their lives, it would be different but since their parents had basically ignored them, it was hard for Alec to hate the only adult who had offered him kindness.
It wasn't a point that he would continue arguing, especially when Izzy hugged him. Looking down as his sister in disbelief as he returned that sign of affection, he realized that maybe this really wasn't his Izzy. She rarely hugged him. Only when they had lost Jace and she'd realized their parents were divorcing did she accept his attempts at comforting her. "You don't hug me. Not like this," he said slowly, trying to understand what that meant. "You don't let anyone in."
Alec ignored the comments about jewelry, struggling with the contradictory information that they had given each other. In the most important ways, Izzy seemed like his sister but in others... How could she have entire sets of memories that didn't match his own? She should know about the Greater Demon and the talk with Magnus. "You visited him on my birthday. You both gave me what I wanted most."
"Someone had to try it. Jace offered, but we decided I was the best choice. Jace later tried to use it when confronting Valentine." When Izzy's attention moved from the Fearless, he showed her his hand where the faint scar of the Alliance rune was still visible. "She and Jace aren't like the rest of us. They have special abilities but Clary is the only one who can create new runes. Jace can't. He's just more... angelic than the rest of us."
