derek_morgan: (sideglance smile outside)

the embarrasing moment when you thought you posted a comment and didn't...

Derek could only chuckle at her boast. He shook his head and fought the urge to want to hug her again. Instead, his hand fell away while a voice inside screamed to hold on. Emily there was just too good to be true. He swallowed thickly but kept a smile on his face. A small, closed lip smile that was smitten which could easily be confused with a grin a person might have at running into a close friend. ...Or at least he kept telling himself that.

"Still two months," he teased her lightly and found his arm coming lightly around her shoulders. Her repeat question was as good a sign as any to return physical contact. "But no. You're the first face from home I've seen." His expression didn't change at his answer. Between relief at seeing her alive and being stuck with no idea how to get back--not wanting to wish that on their friends, Emily hopefully understood why Derek answered her simply. "How long have you been around?"

Always a profiler. Nothing Emily said had given him an indication she had just arrived. Derek wasn't sure how they had missed one another but all that mattered now was that they had found each other. He didn't second guess the arm that wrapped around her. It was in his nature to do with people he cared about. A part of him might have been self-conscious about it in the past with Prentiss because of feelings he didn't want to give voice to. Losing her changed all that.
