Maybe he did, but Emily didn't notice. Considering there was a part of her that had come to the realization that she would never talk with them again, never share jokes, never tease them about the silly things that they did... The hug could have gone on for eternity. Yet there was that soft breath that was exhaled, the tension leaving from her shoulders. She knew they would have helped had she asked, but had also known the cost.
It was a choked laugh that came as she shook her head, gaze dropping down. It was more than she deserved. Emily had made her choice, but she also knew the cost that that choice would have. She had been sworn to secrecy and truthfully had never thought that any of it would come to light. Ian had been caught and put behind bars- or was supposed to have been. Even then, her cover had been good, because Lauren Reynolds had died. Yet she could never have guessed that it would all come back.
"It is. Really." She couldn't explain how it was happening, although a place with flying ships was strange enough to have had Emily thinking plenty of things. That she was out of her mind. That it was an illusion. Any number of other things. Although it was her turn to blink as her gaze slowly rose back up, keeping those tears at bay, because really, she should be apologizing.
And if she was dead... The possibility and the reality of it were two different things. She took another deep breath, holding it again, before letting it out. If she was, then she was, and while there was still so much more that she wanted to do, life was what it was. "Looking pretty good for a dead person, aren't I?"
Her own attempt at humour, perhaps deflection, because it was a lot to take in. Even for her. They were words that were mirrored back to Declan although he wouldn't know that. "But, how long have you been here? The others? Are they...?"
