She'd left without a word, leaving the briefing when everyone's attention had been elsewhere. As much as she hated to admit it, but she knew Ian. Knew what he was capable of, and knew what he had been up to. Emily didn't doubt that he would stick to what he had said; if she warned her team or told anyone, he would kill them. It wasn't something that she had wanted to drag everyone else in to as he had made that clear. And she had made it clear that the only thing that mattered to her was her own life- even if that hadn't been the truth. It had been taken to his turf, and while the situation had not gone as planned with the car, she had used what had come up, and while she had been stalling for time, Emily had no idea how it had gone from that position to this one.
She'd ran through the obvious list of choices, ticking each one off, until all that was left was the impossible. No one had been able to provide her with a better answer as to what had happened and the first night had been a restless one, although who could blame her. A strange place, knowing that Doyle might be out there... Mentally going over each and every detail again and again as the minutes had clicked away. She had needed to be doing something though, not just sitting there in the house that had been provided to her, passing the hours in thought.
Yet while there was a part of Emily that did still expect Ian to show up, saying hello love in a way that was anything but loving, when her name was spoken, she knew it wasn't him. Her head jerked, surprise and confusion written across her face as her mouth opened, although slowly closed. Derek. It was all there, flooding back, already so close to the surface. Emily knew that she had been off and that they had all felt it, yet she had brushed it off. In the end, she had left- left them all in an effort to protect them. "How- when- You're here?"
